Quick Look

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 Coupe only brings a new name to the road this year as it was formally known as the G37 Coupe. Overall this car is the perfect option for a performance oriented buyer who doesn’t need much backseat room.

Full Review

The 2014 Infiniti Q60 Coupe is a good blend of sport and luxury with some shortcomings in the practicality sector. The car has a powerful engine and top-notch quality and design. Its flowing lines and sturdy hunches make this car a looker while the high-tech features add sophistication and functionality. Available in four trim levels; the Q60 Journey, the Q60 AWD, the Q60S 6MT and the Q60IPL this mid-level sport coupe will be a pleasure to drive for those who enjoy rides with a strong kick.

The look of the Q60, albeit unchanged, is as sharp as ever. The sleek sheet metal encompassing the vehicle along with the subtle chrome accents fit the car like a well-made suit. This two-door vehicle has a sloped roof showing that the design really embraces the definition of coupe. The standard bi-xenon headlights and LED taillights provide an upscale look at night. Standard in the well-equipped base trim are 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, foglights and heated mirrors. Optional upgrades and advanced trim lines include a sunroof, upgraded 19-inch wheels, summer performance tires, sport-tuned suspension and steering, upgraded brakes and unique styling.

The interior of this four-seat coupe is nothing short of luxurious. Equipped with top-notch quality materials, the well-thought out design makes the functionality of this vehicle seamless. Passengers will be welcomed by supple leather surfaces and elegant aluminum trim. The front seats are both comfortable and spacious, however the rear bench is cramped and trunk space is very limited. Standard in the base trim, Journey, is keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated eight-way power front seats, a folding rear seat, cruise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 7-inch touch screen display, Bluetooth phone connectivity, a rearview camera, a six-speaker audio system with six-CD changer, satellite radio, an auxiliary input jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. Upgrading in trim line or optional packages can also buy you rear parking sensors, driver memory settings, power-seat lumbar, an 11-speaker Bose audio system and a navigation system.

The main feature of the Q60 coupe is that marriage between performance and style. The design is spot on and the power underneath the hood definitely delivers. The option of four trim levels is always beneficial for those looking for customization. But the fact that the base line comes standard with great features is a bonus for buyers. There is a bit of fault in features, however, when it comes to the upgrade options. The upgrades are grouped into packages, which you may need to choose in a specific order in order to get certain features. For example, everything starts with the Premium package, you can bundle this then with the Navigation package. If you want the Sport package you must also purchase the Navigation — and as a result the Premium — package. For those looking to get the upgraded Technology package, they must select the preceding three options, which may be frustrating for some purchasers. The safety features standard in the Q60 are antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, front seat side airbags, full-strength curtain airbags, active front head restraints, a rearview camera and upgrades such as rear parking sensors can increase your safety.

In true Infiniti fashion, when it comes to power and performance of the Q60, you will not be disappointed. The Journey comes standard with a 3.7 liter V6 engine that delivers 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The standard transmission is a seven-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. The Q60S 6MT trim line comes with a six-speed manual transmission and the Q60 AWD gets the automatic transmission with an all-wheel-drive system. The Q60 IPL gets the same engine tweaked for more power which produces 348 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. This trim is offered with the option of the manual or automatic transmission. The EPA estimated fuel economy for the rear-wheel drive and automatic transmission is an estimated 10.69 liters per 100 kilometers combined. The Q60 AWD and the Q60 sport with a manual transmission both offer 11.76 liters per 100 kilometers.

Overall the Infiniti Q60 Coupe is a good option for those looking to enter the sport-luxury car market. The car performs really well, but you may experience some difficulty with acceleration at high RPMs. The athletic handling allows the Coupe to move well on the open road and the second-to-none design will turn heads in the city.

Power and Performance:

Power for the 2014 Infiniti Q60 comes from a 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 330 hp and 270 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard. The Q60S 6MT swaps the automatic for a six-speed manual transmission, and the Q60 AWD retains the automatic and adds an all-wheel-drive system.

In Edmunds performance testing, a Q60S 6MT coupe went from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds: a very respectable performance for this class, though some competitors are quicker. EPA estimated fuel economy with rear-wheel drive and the automatic transmission is 22 mpg combined (19 city/27 highway). The Q60 AWD drops a bit, to 20 mpg combined (18 city/25 highway), and the Q60 Sport with the manual transmission is also rated at 20 mpg (17 city/25 highway).

Interiors and Special Features:

The Infiniti Q60's interior is exceptional both in design and in quality of materials. The cabin is marked by supple leather surfaces and elegant, soft-sheen "Silk Obi" aluminum trim. The form-fitting standard driver's seat features 8-way power adjustability, while Sport 6MT models offer increased support and 12-way adjustability. Most vehicle functions are accessed through a 7-inch, full-color display mounted high in the center stack for better readability while behind the wheel. Regarding everyday use, rear outward visibility is obstructed to some extent by the coupe's racy C-pillars and the convertible's narrow rear glass, although the standard backup camera alleviates most reversing-related anxiety.

Safety features:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2014 Infiniti QX60 an overall rating of five stars, its highest level. It received five stars for side-crash safety, and four stars each in frontal-crash and rollover tests. We'd note that the overall five-star NHTSA rating is an improvement over the four stars received by last year's Infiniti JX, which is almost entirely the same vehicle under a different label.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) hasn't fully rated this year's QX60, but gives it the top rating of "Good" in the two tests it has listed on its website for the vehicle: moderate-overlap front crash and side crash. The IIHS gave the same two ratings to last year's JX model as well.
