The 2014 Honda Accord offers excellent fuel economy, responsive handling and an overall engaging driving experience. With its reputation for safety and sensibility, it is a good choice for a midsized sedan.
The 2014 Honda Accord Sedan follows the modern trends to a T, offering high-tech functions and features, along with plenty of power and efficiency. Sedans in general have gained tremendous amounts of popularity in the last few years, so if you think like you should jump on that bandwagon, there’s no better time than now.
First of all, the body of this sedan is noticeably different from the last year’s offering – but not different enough for you not to identify it as an Accord. What makes it different? Well, for starters, it’s much curvier and shorter, having lost at least three inches. The grille is now much more restrained, thanks to its slick horizontal bars and the Honda logo right at the centre. Just like many other sedans currently on the market, its beltline – the spot where the side windows meet the metal – is low for increased visibility, especially for those sitting in the back. Other nice little touches include LED brake lights and daytime running lights, which you’ll sadly find only in higher trims. Still – those are very much appreciated.
Step inside and you’ll find a five-passenger cabin that’s similar the one you’d find in the older models but with a higher level of sophistication. The biggest perks include fantastic visibility, plenty of space and easy to use controls. Some of the standout features are ab eight-inch screen, which you’ll find sitting in the dash and providing audio, phone and navigation info. And if you go for an EX-L model or higher, you’ll get a secondary screen that allows touch-operated audio as well as Bluetooth wireless streaming.
As for the actual seating – it’s top-notch here as well. The front seats provide ample legroom along with plenty of support and adjustability. The back seats are actually roomy enough to comfortably fit two adults as well, which isn’t always possible in a midsize sedan. That being said, if you try to fit in three, you’ll run into a couple of problems.
Under the hood, the new Honda Accord Sedan gives you the option of picking one out of two engines. The base one is a 2.4-litre four-cylinder, which yields 185 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, while being combined either with a six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission. The optional engine is a 3.5-litre V6, which will give you 278 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the four-cylinder, it’s connected to a six-speed automatic transmission. Since the latter engine is the more powerful one, it’s the one we would recommend. However, it does come at the cost of fuel economy, so if you’re looking for extra mileage, then you should go for the four-cylinder instead.
Overall, the 2014 Honda Accord Sedan is a superb vehicle, offering all the right benefits for a very good price, which is $23,990. If a midsize sedan is on your to-buy list, then the Accord should be at the top of your “possible purchases” list. Definitely give it a look! The alternatives include the Nissan Altima and Ford Fusion.
