The 2014 Ford Taurus is the company’s largest sedan, offering an updated body, a plethora of special features and a set of reasonably powerful engines. The 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 is particularly impressive, being able to pump out 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The only real issue with this car is its subpar fuel economy – especially for a sedan – but that’s definitely not a deal breaker.
The 2014 Ford Taurus is the company’s largest sedan that offers the kind of comfort and heft its fans have come to expect. This year’s model doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, mostly relying on the updates that have been added last year, but it’s still a slightly different car from what you saw in 2013.
One look at the Taurus’ exterior body and you will know right away that this is one special car – since few other sedans look like it. First of all, it’s freakishly tall for a sedan, featuring wide doors, low roof along with a sloped windshield and back window. The fact that it has a low roof means that the rest of its body, including its wheels are abnormally big. The car also comes with a surprisingly large deck, which accommodates a 20-cubic-foot trunk that can fit in several hefty bags, if you need it to.
On the inside, the sedan justifies its outside largeness admirably, being able to seat five people in total. However, if you intend to take adults on a long trip – and have them remain comfortable – we suggest sticking in only four of them. Front-seat occupants also get massaging seats, which help over long-distance trips even more. And if that’s not enough – those seats come with heating and cooling.
Other notable special features include audio and navigation controls, which you can utilise either through the steering wheel or voice command. And since this is not a true family sedan, you get luxury options like automatic high-beam dimmers, Adaptive Cruise Control, power sunshade for the back window and blind-spot monitoring.
Under the hood, the 2014 Taurus offers a choice of three engines, two of which are 3.5-litre V6s and one is a 2.0-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder. The first V6 can produce 288 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque, while the second one – the twin-turbocharged SHO variant – will yield you 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while benefitting from direct-injection technology. The four-cylinder engine can pump out 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Outside of the SE trim, all Taurus cars come with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, which allow manual control in the transmission. All the engines are paired with a six-speed automatic – with only the SE variant preventing manual shifting.
So, is the 2014 Ford Taurus a good car? Our answer is yes, but whether you want it or not will depend heavily on your preferences. Do you need a large sedan? Or can you get away with a smaller, family vehicle? We suggest you take this one for a ride and decide for yourself! Similar cars include Dodge Charger, Honda Accord and Nissan Maxima.

|Interiors and Special Features:|
The Ford Taurus for 2014 is equipped to carry five, but four adults would be the prime number for comfort over long distances. The driver and front passenger can enjoy the available massaging seats, helping to negate back fatigue on long drives. Climate-controlled front seats providing both heating and cooling are also offered. Most of the Taurus audio and navigation controls can be operated via the steering wheel or by voice command. Further separating itself from the pedestrian family sedan, the 2014 Taurus offers such upscale options as automatic high-beam dimmers, Adaptive Cruise Control, blind-spot monitoring, and a power sunshade for the rear window.

While some of the more advanced safety features, like the lane-departure warning system, are only optional, the Taurus does have plenty of standard safety features on all trims—LED brakelights, automatic halogen headlights with washer, tire pressure monitor, antilock brakes, canopy system side curtain airbags and frontal and seat-mounted side airbags for the driver and passenger. Standard security features include illuminated entry, panic alarm and SecuriLock with ignition disable.
