Quick Look

The 2014 Cadillac CTS Wagon is not the most desirable CTS variant around, but it’s still a very likeable vehicle. Those who want to transport their kids and commute to work on a daily basis will find much to like about this one. However, its cabin can be a little uncomfortable at times, especially for drivers. Given this wagon’s high price mark, that’s definitely unacceptable, so approach it with caution.

Full Review

When you think “Cadillac,” you don’t necessarily think wagon. If fact, sportiness and luxury is what usually comes to mind. That’s why the 2014 Cadillac CTS Wagon may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, it is indeed a very functional wagon that you can to drive your kids or commute to work on a daily basis. It does a few issues here and there, but if you’re looking for a decent family-size vehicle, then this option is as good as any – as long as you’re willing to pay the $48,065 price.

With the "Art & Science" design philosophy finally reaching its peak after 10 years, the new CTS Wagon is the most highly expressive manifestation of that look to date. The design features bold edges, Cadillac’s prominent shield-like grille treatments as well as futuristic vertical lighting elements. Basically, it’s the same car as the sedan and coupe variants, but with a wagon backside, which makes for a more sizeable cargo area.

Inside, Cadillac CTS Wagon sports nice angular design that matches its outside edginess with fierce precision. In addition, there are plenty of soft-touch materials, complemented by stylish wood trim. In the top dash you might find the optional navigation system, which can be retracted almost fully to leave only a small section visible as a touchscreen display for controlling the audio system. This is a fantastic alternative to having a separate control panel. The CTS also comes with a control knob for scrolling through iPod or satellite radio menus for those who hate touchscreen controls.

However, the cabin does have a few issued. One of them is the fact that the driving position is awkward due to the vehicle's oddly placed pedals as well as low-mounted driver seat and barely existent knee room because of the large center stack. The seats themselves are stiff and uncomfortable, which makes driving a painful experience at times. However, there’s still plenty of space otherwise, and in fact, there’s more of it than in many competing models. So, if you can look past the aforementioned issues, you should be fine! Another good thing about the interior is its extensive cargo capacity. It’s 25 cubic feet large with the back seats raised and 58 cubic feet when they are lowered. It’s more space than in a 3-Series wagon or Allroad, but it’s  a little smaller than most compact luxury crossovers.

Under the hood, the CTS Wagon comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is optional across all vehicles. The CTS Luxury model comes with a 3.0-litre V6 engine that generates 270 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque. The 3.6 models get a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 318 horsepower and 275 pound feet of torque.

Overall, the 2014 Cadillac CTS Wagon is not a bad vehicle. Its cabin does have a few issues, but they may not harm you in any way – though that would depend on your preferences. So, if you’re looking for a wagon with a touch of luxury, give this one a try, but don’t expect to instantly love it.

Interiors and Special Features:

Like their exteriors, the impressively well-appointed cabins of the 2014 CTS line reflect two different but related takes on the same design DNA. Leatherette or genuine leather and real wood, metal or carbon fiber accents help define the luxury-sport character of every variant, but only the recast CTS Sedan brings new touches to the formula including a more elegantly contoured dash and console, revised control layouts, and upgraded seats with standard 14-way power adjustment up front. It's also the only CTS to offer the sophisticated albeit slightly quirky CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment/telematics system – which is standard on all models.
