Quick Look

The 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe is obviously a Cadillac thanks to its aggressive, bold styling and the classic shiny paint that Cadillac loves to use. Right from the front, you know what is coming your way when you see the front grille in your rear-view mirror. This amazing coupe commands attention and really looks great on the road. Lets take a look at what makes this car so great.

Full Review

The front grille of the 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe says a lot about the car. The chrome decals and mesh grille are the classic characteristics of luxury Cadillac models. Coming to the side of the vehicle, you get a really cool shape with this coupe, it’s very angular and wedge-like and it adds to the aggression. The 3.6-litre offers a lot of fun, and you can choose to upgrade to the V if you’re looking for the ultimate experience.

Coming to the back of the 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe, you have a really cool integrated tail light which also works as a spoiler. At the bottom, you get the center mount exhaust spoiler in the lower fascia. It all adds up to a package that screams “art and science,” because it’s Cadillac; but also aggression, because it’s a sporty Cadillac.

If you choose to upgrade to the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, you get a massive 6.2-litre supercharged eight-cylinder engine. This little engine makes 556-horsepower and 551 pound-feet of torque which is sent out to a six-speed gearbox and a rear-wheel powertrain. This combination sounds good, drives good, feels good, which does unfortunately take a hit at the fuel economy.

The interior of the 2014 CTS coupe is as focused as you’d expect it to be, from the perspective of the driver. You have the option of upgrading to these beautiful racing seats which hug your body and keep you in place when taking the car out for a joyride. The upgraded model is also outfitted with suede on the gear shifter and steering wheel, giving them a really nice feel in your hands. The instrument cluster is really clear and easy to read.

Cadillac also installed a pop-up display unit which you can hide if you don’t feel like looking at it. This is a feature we wish we could see in more cars these days, as sometimes they can be extremely distracting. When you don’t need it, you can easily push the display into the dashboard, away from sight which clears up your view. The CTS coupe features a tonne of other cool options which explains is rather high price, starting in at over $60,000. This is a high performing vehicle, and if you spend the money, you definitely won’t be disappointed.

When you take the 2014 Cadillac CTS coupe out on the road, you immediately notice that this car was designed to drive hard. You have a great driving position and great visibility, but more importantly, you have a great engine and a great gear box feeding all that power to the rear wheels which means F-U-N. The suspension on this car is absolutely incredible thanks to the magnetic ride system that Cadillac has installed which you usually see on top level Corvettes. It really pays off because you can hammer down on the throttle and really feel the power surge throughout the vehicle.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS coupe is definitely the wild child of the CTS family and really lets people know that you like to have fun. Unfortunately, this car may be going out of production soon because as much as it’s a great car with great performance, there’s just not much of an audience for it. The sedan makes sense since it competes with models like the BMW M5 or the Mercedes-Benz E63. But the coupe just doesn’t quite have that much hold in the market, which is unfortunate.

The 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe is a fun ride with great features and great power. Look no further than this car if you really want to know what power feels like.

Power and Performance:

With the choice of three powertrains, the 2014 CTS approaches the mid-size luxury class evenly. At the entry end, there's a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, rated at 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque--about 32 horsepower up on the Jaguar XF's new turbo four, and also BMW's turbo four, while cranking out 30 lb-ft more torque than the same engine did last year in the ATS sedan. It's the least appealing of the CTS' engines to listen to, even with active noise cancellation, but its peak power drops in at usefully low revs and lingers into the 5500-rpm range.

In the rear-wheel-drive version of the 2014 CTS, the 2.0-liter turbo four earns EPA ratings of 11.76 L/100km city, 7.8 L/100km highway, and 10.23 L/100km combined. Adding optional all-wheel drive drops those numbers to 12.38/8.4 mpg, or 10.7 L/100km combined. Both of these versions are outfitted with the six-speed automatic.

Interiors and Special Features:

Like their exteriors, the impressively well-appointed cabins of the 2014 CTS line reflect two different but related takes on the same design DNA. Leatherette or genuine leather and real wood, metal or carbon fiber accents help define the luxury-sport character of every variant, but only the recast CTS brings new touches to the formula including a more elegantly contoured dash and console, revised control layouts, and upgraded seats with standard 14-way power adjustment up front. It's also the only CTS to offer the sophisticated albeit slightly quirky CUE (Cadillac User Experience) infotainment/telematics system – which is standard on all models.

Safety features:

Standard safety equipment for every 2014 Cadillac CTS Coupe includes antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, active front head restraints and rear parking sensors. Also standard is the OnStar emergency communications system, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, an emergency button, stolen vehicle locator and active intervention, and remote door unlock. Rear parking sensors are standard on all CTS Coupes, and a blind-spot warning system and rearview camera are standard on the Performance and Premium trims.

In Edmunds brake testing, a CTS Coupe with the 19-inch summer tires came to a stop from 60 mph in an impressive 106 feet. With smaller wheels and all-season tires, that distance is likely to be longer but still good for this class.
