Full Review

The BMW X6 xDrive35i returns to market for 2014 essentially unchanged. The X6 has been around since the 2009 model year; it had a redesign in 2012 and is due for another one for 2015.  This car is a good option for anyone that wants crossover functionality with a sporty look. The X6 has great power and handling, though you may end up spending quite a bit of time at the pump with it. There are far better options out there in terms of practicality or even performance, but this car is unique and will light up the faces of any emotional buyer.

The 2014 BMW X6 xDrive35i is marketed as a Sport Activity Coupe as it combines attributes of an SUV with design of a coupe. The high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and large wheels and tires give it the sport utility look, while the dramatic slopping roofline and bold design scream coupe.  The long hood has a large split-vertical grille with BMW badging placed right above. The adaptive xenon headlights and foglamps, placed below, give the X6 a look of aggression. The sport-like features are highlighted at the back of the vehicle by the rear spoiler-like sculpture and chrome-tip double exhaust. The 35i comes standard with 19-inch wheels and a sunroof, while notable optional features include soft-close doors and running boards. The unique look is definitely not for everyone, but that's what makes it special.

The X6 has a beautiful two-tone interior that is well-designed and built with high-quality materials. The dash and doors are made of soft-touch materials, highlighted by a wood trim. The heated power-adjustable leather front seats have memory settings and are very comfortable. Moving into the back of the cabin, the slopping roofline presents an issue for headroom and legroom since it is a bit tight. Cargo space is also compromised for the coupe-like design. The knob for the infotainment system is intelligently placed on the center console for easy control of the different iDrive functions. Optional upgrades to consider for this car include extended leather trim and a rear-seat entertainment system that would be perfect for long road trips. The cabin of the X6 is best described as intimate rather than tight, but the amazing build quality will have you distracted.

The X6 xDrive35i comes with a lot of amazing standard features that solidify this car's presence on the luxury car market. There are some outstanding features though that really make this vehicle a contender in its class. The package options that are available on this car allow the buyer to personalize their vehicle to add or delete certain items. A notable package on the 35i is the Premium package that adds keyless ignition and entry, four-zone automatic climate control, rear- and top-view parking cameras, manual rear sunshades and the navigation system. Another awesome feature on the X6 is the standard xDrive all-wheel drive system. There are not many AWD systems out there that are better than the one that BMW is offering with its almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution. If you drive in unpredictable climates the xDrive will only reaffirm your decision to buy this vehicle.

Powering the X6 xDrive35i is a 3.0-liter turbocharged incline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Every X6 comes standard with AWD and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW X6 xDrive35i is a powerful car that blends style and luxury with sport and performance. There are some comfort issues in this vehicle, but if the design is for you, then none of that will matter.

Interiors and Special Features:

From the front seats, the 2014 BMW X6 is nearly identical to the outgoing X5 upon which it is based, though sportier seats and a cushioned design for the center console (protecting knees during aggressive cornering) are unique to the X6. In BMW fashion, the materials are top-notch and everything is put together beautifully. The iDrive interface works well for controlling and adjusting all of the X5's systems, though in our experience it typically takes a few more clicks and twists of the control knob to get what you want; some rival systems are easier to use.

Safety features:

Every 2014 BMW X6 includes stability and traction control, antilock brakes, automatic brake drying, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. Also standard is the BMW Assist emergency communications system, which provides automatic crash notification, stolen vehicle recovery and on-demand roadside assistance. Optional safety equipment includes a lane departure warning system and sideview, rear- and top-view parking cameras.

In Edmunds brake testing, an X6 xDrive35i came to a stop from 60 mph in a very short 111 feet.
