The Dodge Journey, Upgraded and Improved

The 2013 Dodge Journey Crossover has evolved in response to customer demand – the 2013 model in its current stage of evolution has benefited from a better engine and a higher quality interior. The earlier model simply did not have the power it needed, but with the upgraded engine, the Journey is looking for a rebound.

To give an idea of its capabilities, here are the Dodge Journey’s Specs:

Engine Type

2.4L I-4

Horsepower

173 HP

Torque

166 lb-ft

Fuel Economy

7.7L/100 km HWY with the 2.4L DOHC

Unfortunately, the Journey’s size may still be its downfall. A family sized vehicle typically demands a stronger engine so it is not underpowered when full of passengers and cargo. The 173 horses underneath the hood may be a bit less than is needed, but there is an advantage. The advantage present because of the small engine is fuel economy.

The 7.7L/100 km gives this vehicle an edge over the competition when it comes to fuel consumption - considering the price of gas, this is definitely a plus.

Another plus is the room inside. The Journey boasts a 7-passenger capability, but here’s the catch: The vehicle can fit 7, but realistically, only when there is little or no cargo.

So when the maximum passenger count is reached, it becomes rather cramped, which any parent knows is recipe for disaster in a car full of kids.

One of the most complained about features of the Journey’s old model was its low quality interior – this is one aspect that Dodge has improved drastically: the material quality is good, and the features contribute to a far more inviting, convenient vehicle. Softer features have replaced the hard plastic surfaces, and they have added sound blocking material that drastically alleviates the noise factor. The multi-information display and the steering console display give the driver all of the information needed, such as:

  • Exterior temperature
  • Average fuel consumption
  • Distance until empty
  • Compass
  • Odometer

There are many options available as well to include:

  • An engine block heater
  • Sunroof
  • Heated front seats
  • Trailer tow group
  • Integrated second-row child safety seats
  • Sirius Backseat TV
  • Rear DVD entertainment – Comes with the Infinity sound system.
  • Navigation and sound group - Garmin navigation, voice command, six premium Infinity speakers with subwoofer and 368-watt amplifier, a 30-gigabyte hard-drive, rear parking assist, rearview camera, and a UConnect Phone system.
  • Flexible seating group - a 50/50 folding and reclining seat,  and a second-row 60/40 Tilt 'n Slide seat.

In all, the 2013 Journey has developed into an appealing, user-friendly, spacious vehicle with a vastly improved interior. Although last years model was generally unliked by customers, Dodge has listened well, and in the spirit of customer appreciation, has altered the design and function of the Journey to reflect the wishes of their customers. The most noticeable changes are the design of the interior, and the upgraded engine. These upgrades make it a vehicle worthy of consideration.
